In this section, you will find the discography of Pink Floyd and also YouTube links to my favourite songs from them! Though each album has its own unique style, I will focus more on the ones that resonate with me the most.

The WALL( 1979)
“Goodbye cruel world/ I’m leaving you today”
“The Wall” is Pink Floyd’s eleventh studio album and one of my favourites because it touches important themes, such as education and isolation. What is interesting about this work is that it was build around a fictional character named “Pink”. This protagonist struggled throughout the album with emotional numbness and inner turmoil, reasons why he wanted to construct “a wall” to detach himself from this emotional pain. Little that you know, he was in fact, Roger Waters. This album dives deep into his personal life. From one perspective, this “wall” represents for Roger, a key to separate himself from the audience. He layed out his frustrations many times that “the crowd” became too big and he didn’t felt that emotional connection to his fandom, like in the early days”. From another perspective, this album touches his haunting past caused by his over-protective mother and being bullied by his teachers.

I will leave below a couple of links for you to listen to my favourite songs from this album:
DARK SIDE OF THE MOON (1973)
“No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun”

What is magnificent about this album is the continuity of the songs, each song finishes with a melody that is continued to the next song. The first song on the album is “Speak to me”, which starts with a human heartbeat, that will fade away in the last song “Eclipse”, symbolizing the full circle of life, since the day a human is born to his inevitable death. Accordingly, Pink Floyd takes their fans on a journey full of existential themes, such as materialism in the song “Money” or inner turmoil in the song “Brain Damage”, making their fans a reminder to stay true to themselves, despite the direction in which our today’s toxic culture has gone to.
I will also leave below for this album some links for you to listen:
MEDDLE (1971)
“Strangers passing in the street/ By chance, two separate glances meet”
In my opinion, the track “Echoes” stands out the most on this album. It has so much magic about it — from the very first note, it pulls you into another world. The way the sounds build, drift, and echo through space feels like a journey through the ocean, the cosmos, and the human mind all at once. It’s haunting, emotional, and incredibly beautiful. Even though it’s over 23 minutes long, it never feels too much — every second feels necessary. It’s a track that truly captures the essence of what makes Pink Floyd so special.
Wish you were here (1975)
“We’re just two lost souls swimming in a fishbowl”
“Wish You Were Here” stands as one of Pink Floyd’s most emotionally resonant and moving albums. Dedicated in part to former band member Syd Barrett, it explores themes of absence, nostalgia and the dehumanizing effects of the music industry. The tracks “Wish You Were Here”, along with “Shine On You Crazy Diamond”, are heartfelt tributes to Syd, written by the band as a way of expressing their longing for his presence. It reflects their wish that he could be there with them, sharing in their success and journey, as he once did during the band’s early days. The track “Welcome to the Machine” explores how artists are treated in the music industry, being treated more like products, than real human beings. The “machine” in the song represents the corporate machinery that strips away creativity, individuality and soul, all in the name of profit.
ANIMALS (1977)
“And when you lose control/ You’ll reap the harvest you have sown”
The album “Animals”, released in 1977, is one of Pink Floyd’s most politically charged albums, greatly inspired by George Orwell’s “Animal Farm”. It uses animal metaphors to critique modern society: dogs represent ruthless businessmen, pigs symbolize corrupt leaders, and sheep stand for the passive masses. The album features longer, more complex tracks with stunning guitar solos and darker, more aggressive tones. Roger Waters’ biting lyrics and David Gilmour’s expressive playing come together to deliver a raw, powerful reflection on greed, control, and conformity. Personally, my favourite track from this album is “Dogs”.
RELICS (1971)
“Julia dream, dreamboat queen/ Queen of all my dreams”
Let’s take a moment to return to the roots and appreciate the beauty of the album “Relics”. This album showcases Pink Floyd’s early style, filled with psychedelic and experimental nuances. It captures the raw creativity of the band’s formative years. Unlike their later later concept albums, “Relics” is a compilation of early singles, B-sides and rare tracks. My favourite song from the album is “Julia Dream”, probably because that’s my name, but also because it has such a dreamy atmosphere to it. I will leave below a link for you to listen!
THE MADCAP LAUGHS (1970)
“I heard you singing
In the midnight air”
To wrap up this “Discography” section, I will leave here a song that has a special place in my heart: a solo work from Syd Barrett, which is called “Golden Hair”.
